MoodTune ("we") is a mobile app that listens to a song and tells you its mood. This page explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to get it deleted. The short version: we don't keep your audio, we don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
Your audio
When you analyze a song, the app sends the audio file to our server. The server writes it to a temporary file, analyzes it, and deletes it when the analysis finishes. Audio is never saved to a database or cloud storage. Part of the analysis also runs on your phone, using a model built into the app.
For songs from the free music catalog, the audio comes from Jamendo. Your phone and our server download the track, analyze it, and delete it the same way.
What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password | If you create an account | To sign you in. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider, and we never see them. |
| Saved results: song title, artist, the mood we showed you, and confidence | Signed-in users, after each analysis | To show your History. For uploads with no title, we use the file name without its extension. |
| Mood results and your "does this feel right?" answer, with device model, OS version, and app version | Every analysis, for guests too | To measure and improve accuracy. These records contain no title, artist, file name, or audio. They're linked to your account only if you're signed in. |
| Crash and error reports | When something goes wrong | To fix bugs. Reports can include technical details about the request, such as an uploaded file's name and size, but never the audio. |
| Catalog searches | When you search the catalog | Sent straight from your phone to Jamendo to find tracks. |
| Spotify account details and access tokens | Only if you connect Spotify | To read your playlists for analysis. We ask for your profile, email, and playlists, and nothing else. |
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers. We don't use analytics SDKs or tracking pixels.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use these service providers to run MoodTune:
- Supabase: accounts and database.
- Railway: hosting for our analysis server.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting.
- Jamendo: the free music catalog (searches and track audio).
- Spotify: only if you choose to connect it.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
On your device
The app stores your sign-in session and one display setting on your phone. On supported iPhones, mood descriptions may be written by Apple's on-device language model. That model receives only mood and sound measurements, and nothing leaves your phone.
How long we keep it
- Audio: deleted as soon as the analysis finishes.
- Account and History: kept until you ask us to delete your account. Deleting your account also deletes your History.
- Spotify tokens: deleted when you disconnect Spotify in the app.
- Mood accuracy records: kept to improve the model. If you delete your account, they're kept without any link to you.
Your choices and rights
You can use MoodTune without an account. To access, correct, or delete your data, or to delete your account, email privacy@getmoodtune.com from the address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to use them.
Children
MoodTune isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is sent over HTTPS, and access to our database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
